Solta is an island situated in the Adriatic Sea in the central Dalmatian archipelago, west of the island of Brac, south of Split (separated by Split Channel) and east of the Drvenik islands (separated by the Šolta Channel).

Its area is 51.9 km2, and it has a population of 1,675 people. The highest peak of Šolta is the summit Vela Straža which is 238 metres high. Maslinica is situated on the western side of the island of Šolta in the bay known by the same name. Near Maslinica there is a cove Šešula, as well as an archipelago made up of seven little islands, on the 43° 24 of the north geographical latitude and 16° 12 of the east geographical longitude. Island Solta has been inhabitated since Prehistory.

It was first time mentioned by Pseudoskilaks in 4th century BC as Olyntha (unripened fig). Croats renamed it into Sulet. Venetians renamed it into Solta.Solta was inhabitated by refugees from Salona in 6th century.
